On The Run From Santa is a fun Christmas time storybook for toddlers and children. The story is about a toy that comes to a family on Christmas Eve. The toy is called Thingy (and looks like it should be named so). Thingy is a bit of a problem child, so to speak, and causes problems. Thingy is such a problem that eventually Santa Claus himself takes note; sends all the elves to find and bring Thingy back. In the end, the family realizes they love Thingy despite all his shenanigans and plead with Santa to give him back! Santa, being the great guy he is, does just that and everyone’s happy on Christmas.
Now, our author Melinda Kinsmen, is known for making books just like On The Run From Santa. She’s a rockstar of an author, and we’ve reviewed her book Cyril Squirrel and the Long Run Home here in the past. This book is just as good as Cyril’s book, if not better. On top of that, this is a Christmas story that ends happily, just like every Christmas story should!
Also as per usual, Melinda has included a number of extras in this book. There are a few puzzles and games at the back of the book. This changes the book from a simple story to a bit of an activity book for your little ones and these games have helped my child go back to Melinda’s book in the past. My toddler just seems to love books that allow him to be interactive; I like them because having puzzles and games like the ones found here makes it easy to keep him engaged.
Now what about this book specifically? Well, I love the rhythm and rhyming employed throughout the book. It’s so well written and the rhymes roll of the tongue that it’s just so easy to read aloud to my guy. It almost feels like a song when we read this, and I know how much the rhyming helps him to absorb the story. As a result, we both enjoy reading the story more. I’m sure I don’t need to explain this, but it’s an extremely important element to any book for it to be easy and fun to read.
Probably my favorite thing about this book is how everything is drawn and written to be absolutely fun and cute. Melinda brings the spirit of Christmas to life in a way that’s enjoyable for everyone with the way she composes every page. Right from the first page (picture below), the illustrations are magical and yet simplistic. It’s a true dichotomy to create these pictures that are so much fun, yet so simply drawn and colored. I love it, and it’s a consistent piece to every one of Melinda’s books.
As I said, we’ve reviewed Melinda’s books before here on Kids Fun Channel and I can safely say that you could buy any of her books and be happy (here’s a link to Melinda’s Collection on Amazon). In the case of On The Run From Santa, it’s perfect for the holiday season. It’s a fun little storybook that includes activities that both you and your child will enjoy. If you haven’t already headed to buy this book, heead to Amazon and buy the book for $0.99 USD (Kindle) or $7.99 USD (Paperback) by clicking here.
Finally, Melinda has her own website all about her children’s books. It has some free printables on it, as well as more details on lots of her books.
