Rescued by Love: A Story About Dog Adoption is a cute little storybook by a little author named Lindsay Jouet. Lindsay takes us through the story of her dog Chili who becomes bored at home when everyone leaves. As a result, her family gets a new dog who’s adopted from a shelter. From there, it’s love at first sight as Lindsay falls in love with her new dog, Chex.
Clearly, there’s a positive message here that’s hard to ignore. Chex was in a shelter and was likely in a bit of a situation. Lindsay’s story is important because it highlights how both the family and Chex had their life improved by doing a kind thing and adopting a dog from a shelter. I think it’s an important message and I love the fact that it’s coming from someone so young. Oh, did I mention that Lindsay is only 7 years old? Yeah, she’s already teaching you lessons.
Another thing that I love about the book is how our young children will identify with it. It’s a simple story, and kids are going to be able to identify with the language and the story. They’re going to love the dogs in the story and they’re going to be able to empathize with our young author.
The best thing about the book might be another thing our young author is teaching us. She’s teaching about philanthropy, as she’s donating 50% of the proceeds to charities that benefit animal welfare! Not only is that a great cause, but it’s amazing to see such a young person with such a balanced perspective on the world.
This book is a family affair, as Catherine Jouet has taken the photographs used on every page of the book. The photographs are stylized and I honestly thought that they were illustrations. I later found out through a couple of sources that they were in fact photographs. Have a look at the illustration below and see if you can tell that it’s a picture.
Either way, in the end these are a fantastic way to illustrate a children’s book. They’re colorful, detailed, and yet have the look of a cartoon. They bring an entirely different look to the book and I personally love it.
At the end of the review here, I can honestly say that I will buy this book. The reason I say that is simple: we should support a young person doing so much for such selfless reasons. Lindsay Jouet is helping animals (clearly because she loves them) and I can get behind that cause. The fact that she’s donating 50% of the proceeds to charities to help animals is an incredible fact when we consider her young age.
It doesn’t hurt that the book is a cute little story that your little ones will identify with and it also doesn’t hurt that its’ illustrations are fun to look at. Head on over to Amazon and pick up your copy of Rescued By Love: A Story About Dog Adoption.
